Please make sure you read the narrative that accompanies each photo: without the story they are just nice photos, but by reading each woman's account of her pregnancy and the reason for choosing the photo location that she did, the reader shares in the joy and wonder of each woman's creation. Looking at them again several months after first viewing them, I still find them very moving. Wonderful!

It's been pointed out that this is a way for the National Trust to get free photos. Well, yes, so make sure you read the small print. There might be rules that you don't want to adhere to as regards copyright, so check it out for yourself. Still, a nice place to visit though!

Reply by Norman Croston:
"Hi, Never used pre flash, found it a bit pointless. Using the system as above your subject's pupils will be wide enough to give a decent catchlight - and provided that the flash is not on the same axis as the lens there will be no problems with 'redeye'."

Sent by Norman Croston:
"Here's a trick that I have used for years when photographing a 'blinker'. When you are ready to take the shot tell the subject to close their eyes, then say " OK, open them now!" That is the time to press the shutter. Surprise surprise, no more shots of closed eyes."

Many thanks for your suggestion, John, and for taking the time to comment! I agree, Grassington is a lovely place (I watched my dad take off in a hot air balloon from there!) though it's been quite a few years since I last paid a visit. I visited Linton Falls last year which isn't far away as you say and couldn't believe that I'd never been before! I shall add your suggestion to our list! See here: http://irwellvalephotographyclub.org/2011/06/22/places-to-photograph-on-a-day-out-from-rossendale/

You are most welcome to come along for any one-off meeting at our club. Or keep your eye on our 'What's on' section - listed on the right hand side of our blog - for details of any photography talks, etc that are advertised in the area.

Many thanks again.

Hi,
Sadly as much as I would love to get involved with your little club, I just don't have the time at the moment.

I can however make a suggestion for a field trip out, which is not to far away and I think well worth considering. Especially if you are using your own transport.

Grassington never ceases to amaze me, no matter what the time of year and no matter what the weather there is something different that grabs my attention each time I go.

There is adequate parking in the NP car park and there is more than enough tea rooms & pubs to meet all members needs.

A far as photography is concerned, you have the drama of the dales scenery & the spectacular Linton Falls, to the rustic architecture of the village itself and the medieval church of St Michael and All Angels located by the river.

The village hosts a Dickensian festival over the first 3 Saturdays in December when all the shop staff, dress in period costume.

This won't be to everyone's taste, but it may give some of your members an early winter option, especially if we get an early fall of snow.
