Several times a year, the club arranges a photography trip. These are held on a weekend and in the last couple of years we have visited: Padley Gorge in Cheshire; Chester Zoo; The Yorkshire Dales; Derbyshire; Buxton - for a talk and slide show by the landscape photographer, Joe Cornish; Tatton Park; the east coast for a trip to Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay; and a visit round Manchester City Centre for a fascinating guided tour and some good photo opportunities.
In the first half of 2012 a splendid day was had at the Black Country Museum in West Midlands followed by our latest trip this summer to Brimham Rocks and Fountains Abbey. That brings us bang up to date for our planned trips to Salford Quays on Saturday 22 September and/or Saturday 6 October. (Please see below for more details)
Day trips are social occasions with plenty of good conversation and tea-room stops along the way. And it provides the opportunity to photograph some of England’s finest locations within travelling distance. A grand day out, indeed!
Upcoming trips: 2012
Saturday, 4th August 2012 Brimham Rocks and Fountains Abbey with a meal at Banny’s Fish and Chip Restaurant (Colne) on the way back. The cost will be around £20.00. Entry to Fountains Abbey and food are not included.

Sunday, 26th August 2012 Keighley and Worth Valley Railway’s ‘Haworth Haddock’ specials. The train leaves Oxenhope (the southern terminus of the line) at 7.30pm for two round trips of the line (about 20 miles). The train will be steam hauled throughout and during the trip a complimentary fish and chip supper will be served to your table. There is a full bar on board serving real ale, spirits and hot and cold drinks.
Oxenhope station offers plenty of free parking. Please note: this is not a coach trip.
The railway prides itself on its period stations, several of which have been used as film locations and are gas lit. At some point during the evening the train will pause for about 30 minutes at one of the stations (usually Keighley) for passengers to stretch their legs and take photographs etc. There will be live music at this station. The train will then return to Oxenhope at about 10.30pm.
This will be an informal day out. Members can meet at Oxenhope around 7.00pm just taking in the ride, or if they wish can make a day of it by visiting (say) Hebden Bridge, Hardcastle Craggs, Skipton or perhaps Bolton Abbey in the afternoon. All are reasonably close by.
The price per person for a party booking – which assumes 10 or more and reserves a group of seats together – is: Adults £16.00 Seniors £12.00 Children £8.00
This is the August Bank Holiday weekend so hopefully no one has to get up for work the following day (!!) These specials are hugely popular so early booking is essential.
